The BMX Bowls Bridge is the central expression of the 22-Acre Rockstar Energy Bike Park, which rambles along the Greens Bayou in North Houston, providing a variety of terrain and interactive elements for BMX riders of all skill-levels and interests. The unique design merges the precast concrete bridge support structure with the 25,000 ft^2 BMX Bowls area, resulting in a structure that simultaneously acts as the primary circulation through the north end of the park, an area for visitors to observe and interact with riders, and an exciting series of elements for BMXers to engage with. The prefabricated steel structure utilizes simple, inexpensive angles and plates to create a lively, dynamic form evocative of BMX culture, and the precast bridge supports are simultaneously abutments, ramps, and planters for a tree canopy providing much needed shade from the sweltering Houston Summer.
