BLUFF CREEK PARK

Playa Vista, CA

Status: Completed 2013

Landscape Architect: The Office of James Burnett
Architect: Endrestudio

At Bluff Creek Park in Los Angeles, a dynamic methodology of roof construction using arrays of wood members to support translucent waterproof polycarbonate panels brings light into otherwise typically dark, dingy spaces. The same construction logic is applied to other elements on site, employing a unified language throughout the park. One enters through sculptural wood gateways, reminiscent of welcoming hands, and finds shelter from the sun under graceful, sweeping shade arrays. Custom benches give moments of repose, and observation decks cantilever over the banks of the creek to offer places to rest and observe activities in the fluvial way.
